Hindi movie actor and director Satish Kaushik, died of a heart attack at the age of 66 in Gurgaon. Anupam Kher tweeted his death to admirers, along with a photo of both actors.
Satish Kaushik was recognized for his versatility in roles. Among many other roles he has portrayed, he is well known for his appearances as “Calendar” in Mr. India and Pappu Pager in Deewana Mastana.
On April 13, 1956, he was born in Mahendragarh, Haryana. In 1972, he graduated from Kirori Mal College in Delhi. He went on to study at the National School of Drama (NSD) and the Cinema and Television Institute of India (FTII).
He began his performing career as a stage performer. His most notable stage performance was as “Willy Loman” in the Hindi play Salesman Ramlal, an adaptation of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman.
He also participated as a screenwriter. He authored the lines for Kundan Shah’s 1983 comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron.
He worked as a director as well. His debut film as a filmmaker was Sridevi’s Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993). He was in charge of Prem (1995). Both of these films performed poorly at the box office. Nonetheless, he continued to direct, and his first success was Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rahte Hain (1999).
Satish Kaushik’s extraordinary work has left an everlasting impression on the Indian cinema industry. He received the Filmfare Best Comedian Award twice, for Ram Lakhan in 1990 and Saajan Chale Sasural in 1997.
In addition, he co-founded Karol Bagh Productions with Anupam Kher.
Satish was also involved in the development of Chandigarh Film City. The project was carried out in collaboration with Parsvanath Developers. They had purchased a 30-acre plot of property in Chandigarh’s Sarangpur hamlet. Nevertheless, the initiative was cancelled after a media exposé.
In 1985, he married Shashi Kaushik. His two-year-old son died in 1996. Vanshika is his daughter.
