President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the bill to withdraw all the three agricultural laws. The bill to repeal the three laws was passed by both houses of Parliament on 29 November. All three agricultural laws have now been formally repealed, thanks to the President’s consent.Farmers have been agitating for more than a year for the repeal of agricultural laws and enactment of a law on MSP. Under the leadership of the United Kisan Morcha, the farmers are standing on the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders of Delhi.

Meanwhile, on November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation on the occasion of Guru Parv, announced the decision to withdraw three agricultural laws. At the same time, he had said that a committee would be formed regarding MSP. After the announcement of the bill withdrawal, the farmers’ organizations welcomed it but talked about not ending the movement.

Today, the general secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Sabha, Hannan Mollah, said that the farmers’ movement can end if the families of 687 martyr farmers of the movement get compensation. All the cases related to the movement should be withdrawn and after the withdrawal of the movement, a written guarantee should be given to discuss the making of ‘MSP Act’.

On Tuesday, farmer leader Darshanpal said that the central government has sought the names of five people from the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) to constitute a committee to discuss the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other issues. He said that the farmers’ organizations will take a decision in this matter in the meeting to be held on December 4.
