Assam CM promises to surpass Punjab’s GDP in 3 years

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday promised to increase Assam’s GDP manifolds, enough to surpass the GDP of Punjab in a span of 3 years.

CM Biswa at the same time also revealed that the state is following a strict approach against child marriage. Nearly 1000 persons accused for child marriage are yet in jail and await for bail since the court is adamant onto taking a staunch action against them.

Since February 3, 2023, there’s been a revealing of more than 3,000 people allegedly linked to child marriages detained so far across Assam.

Lately the Assam cabinet has also approved a proposal to punish men who have married girls below 14 years of age under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO).

As per the CM’s statement, th state’s Debt-to-GDP ratio at 23 per cent and “Punjab’s GDP is at around ₹ 6,80,000 crore while Assam’s GDP is to touch ₹ 4,93,000 crore,” he stated.

Talking about employment in the state where the number of unemployed has reduced from 22 lakh to 12 lakh, the CM stated, “There is an environment in Assam now that jobs are given purely on merit and there is complete transparency. I have to bear criticism from some party men at times for not allowing them to recommend a single candidate for jobs.”
