Mohan Bhagwat, the leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has expressed alarm about the current “climate of disharmony,” according to former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi, who spoke to NDTV. One of the five Muslim intellectuals who participated in the 75-minute meeting with Mr. Bhagwat last month was Mr. Quraishi. He characterised the conversation as “pleasant” and “productive,” covering topics of shared interest.
Weeks after Mr. Bhagwat’s statement questioning the necessity of “looking for a Shivling under every mosque,” the group had requested the meeting in August. Mr. Bhagwat had also stated that the RSS, the BJP’s ideological tutor, does not support any other movement (“andolan”) on these matters in light of the Gyanvapi case and its impact on other religious sites.
Mr. Quraishi revealed to NDTV in an exclusive interview today that the group had expressed their concern on the situation in the nation. Mr. Quraishi said, “Mr. Bhagwat indicated even he was concerned.” “I don’t like the discordant environment. It is entirely incorrect. Only through unity and cooperation can the nation advance “He cited what the RSS leader said.
He claimed that Mr. Bhagwat raised a few issues that concerned him particularly. One of them, he claimed, is cow slaughter, which infuriates Hindus.
“As a result, we stated that it is essentially prohibited nationwide. Muslims uphold the law, so anyone who does so is committing a grave sin for which they should be punished “added Mr. Quraishi.
The use of the word “kafir,” which “gave the Hindus a terrible feeling,” was the other.
“As we stated, the word’s original Arabic meaning is “non-believers.” Some people are known as “Momin,” and they adhere to Islam. They call the unbelievers “kafir.” It was once a neutral word, but it is now abusive. We have no trouble putting a halt to it “said Mr. Quraishi.
He claimed that the Muslim group brought up how “some right-wing people label Muslims jehadi, and Pakistani.”
“They want Muslims to consistently demonstrate their patriotism because they are sceptical of their loyalty. Indians are also Muslims “Mr. Bhagwat concurred, he claimed. “Our DNA is similar. Most of the local Muslims are converts, “He cited the RSS chief’s response in his statement.
According to Mr. Quraishi, the session, which was only scheduled to last 30 minutes, ended up lasting an hour and a half.
Along with him, it was also attended by former Aligarh Muslim University Chancellor Lieutenant General Zameer Uddin Shah, former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, ex-MP Shahid Siddiqui, and businessman Saeed Shervani.
