Big relief to terrorist Hafiz Saeed, 6 JuD leaders acquitted in terror financing case

Six leaders of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD) led by Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attack and the main organization of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were arrested in Pakistan’s Lahore. The High Court has acquitted. These members were earlier sentenced in a case of financial aid to terrorism.

In fact, Lashkar-e-Taiba had planned the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks in which more than 160 people were killed. Six American citizens were also among those killed in the attack. At the same time, the connection of Saeed’s Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) is linked to the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

6 Leaders were Sentenced

According to Dawn, the trial court had sentenced 6 leaders to 9 years of imprisonment. Among these leaders, Professor Malik Zafar Iqbal, Yahya Mujahid, Nasrullah, Samiullah and Umar Bahadur were sentenced to nine years in prison, while Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki was sentenced to six months. However, this action against Rehman Makki was taken after the FIR was filed by the Counter Terrorism Department of Punjab Police.

Failed to Prove the Allegation

Following which the appellants challenged their conviction before a division bench of Chief Justice Muhammad Amir Bhatti and Judge Tariq Salim Shaikh. His counsel argued that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the appellants beyond doubt.
