The Charanjit Singh Channi government of Punjab has reduced the prices of petrol and diesel today. After presiding over the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that today the Punjab government has decided that petrol will become cheaper by Rs 10 and diesel by Rs 5 in Punjab from midnight.
Central government had reduced excise duty
Just a day before Diwali, i.e. on November 3, the Narendra Modi government at the Center had announced to reduce the excise duty on petrol and diesel. Since then, like other states, speculations were being made to cut the prices of petrol and diesel in Punjab too. Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu also appealed to the Channi government to cut the prices of petrol and diesel.

After the decision of the Center, the price of petrol and diesel decreased by how much?
The central government had cut excise duty on petrol and diesel prices by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively. After this decision of the government, petrol prices across the country were cut from Rs 5.7 to Rs 6.35 and diesel prices from Rs 11.16 to Rs 12.88.
