An official statement issued by the party said, “The Congress President has given immediate approval to the proposal to constitute the State Election Committee of Punjab Congress, which will be headed by Punjab Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.” The committee will take all election-related decisions of the party ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections to be held early next year.
Ambika Soni has been elected as the chairman of the Co-ordination Committee. Sunil Jakhar has been appointed as the chairman of the campaign committee. Pratap Singh Bajwa has been appointed as the chairman of the manifesto committee. National Student Union of India (NSUI) President Akshay Sharma has also been included in this. State Youth Congress President Barinder Dhillon’s name is also included.
There are 23 districts in the state, of which Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, Jalandhar and Bathinda have more than one committee. In January 2020, Congress National President Sonia Gandhi dissolved the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and the District Party Committees. Meanwhile, the party appointed 28 presidents and 54 working presidents to district Congress committees.
