Congress demands SC-monitored probe in ‘Bitcoin scam’, says BJP government is covering it up

The Congress said on Saturday that the country’s largest bitcoin scam occurred in Karnataka in conjunction with the arrest of a suspected hacker, and that the state’s BJP government is covering it up.

Randeep Surjewala, the party’s chief spokesperson, also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s “silence” on the matter, and stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to investigate the subject under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge. to be created.

Last year, a hacker was arrested

So far, neither the BJP nor the Karnataka government have responded to his allegations. It’s worth noting that the alleged hacker Srikrishna alias Sriki was apprehended in Bengaluru around a year ago. He has been seized with bitcoins worth crores of rupees. Srikrishna is also suspected of hacking government websites, ordering narcotics through the ‘darknet,’ and making cryptocurrency payments.

Surjewala, the Congress’s general secretary and Karnataka’s in-charge, told reporters, “This is India’s greatest bitcoin scam. Its wires run through 14 to 15 nations. Conspiratorial measures were made to conceal everything in this instance. The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and other agencies were kept in the dark. Karnataka’s BJP-led administration is attempting to conceal the situation.”

5000 bitcoins were stolen by a hacker

According to Surjewala, “The alleged hacker testified in front of the Metropolitan Magistrate. He acknowledged to hacking eight times and stealing 5000 bitcoins, although he did not provide much information.

He said that while providing some records, “On December 1, 2020, and April 14, 2021, bitcoin transfers were made on two separate occasions. During this time, Bengaluru Police held suspected hacker Srikrishna in custody. In the midst of this, real doubts about the individuals in power in Karnataka arise. The Prime Minister’s and Home Minister’s silence has raised eyebrows.

According to Surjewala, Chief Minister Basavarao Bommai recently met with Prime Minister Modi and has stated that the bitcoin scam was discussed during the meeting. “We want to question the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, the Chief Minister, and JP Nadda on the bitcoin scam,” he stated.

What is the Chief Minister’s job and responsibility? – Surjewala

“Why was Interpol not informed?” the Congress leader inquired. Why did the Karnataka BJP administration remain mute for five months after the accused hacker was apprehended in November of 2020? What is the Chief Minister’s role and accountability, given that he was the state’s Home Minister at the time of the incident? Why were the NIA, ED, and other agencies, as well as the RBI, not notified?

“The BJP government is unable to conduct an investigation.” This is a global bitcoin phishing scheme. To investigate this, a SIT should be formed under the supervision of a sitting Supreme Court judge. This probe should include Interpol, representatives from other relevant agencies, including the Reserve Bank.
