Punjab will hold legislative elections early next year. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Akali Dal, BJP, and Amarinder Singh’s new party all appear to be posing a serious challenge to the ruling Congress in this election. After becoming dissatisfied with the Congress, Amarinder Singh recently announced the formation of a new political party. He said today that his party, along with the Punjab Lok Congress, the BJP, and the party of former Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, will form the next administration in the state. Amarinder Singh resigned from the Congress after being dismissed as Chief Minister of Punjab in September.
