According to data released this morning by the Union Health Ministry, India recorded 8,488 new coronavirus infections today, bringing the country’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,45,18,901, the lowest in 538 days. The number is the lowest since May of last year.

India’s active caseload has dropped to 1,18,443, the lowest level in 534 days, with active cases accounting for less than 1% of all cases in the country.
For the past 45 days, the daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been fewer than 20,000, and for the past 148 days, it has been less than 50,000.
