The people of Delhi have endorsed four programmes the Delhi government launched to boost greenery and protect the environment.

According to officials, nearly 90% of respondents to a feedback programme run by Delhi’s Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) supported the government’s initiatives to increase greenery through the Van Mahotsav, provide financial aid to the general public to maintain parks and gardens, adopt an electric vehicle retrofit policy, and adopt rainwater harvesting systems.

Through Paryavaran Mitra, a volunteer programme to encourage residents to contribute to improving the environment of the city, DDC, a think tank for the Delhi government, solicited input from the public on its policies. Through a chatbot system on WhatsApp, the environment department launched it in July, and as of now, 3,333 Paryavaran Mitras have registered with the government.
Officials claim that four environmental initiatives from the Delhi government known as “Aap Ki Neeti” were presented on the chatbot in order to raise awareness and solicit comments from the public. Officials reported that the policies have received a positive response.

“Over 3,800 people reacted to them over the course of the previous four weeks. 90% of respondents approved of the plan to provide financial aid for rainwater collection, 89% approved of Van Mahotsav, 88.9% approved of the EV retrofitting policy, and 81.4% approved of the plan to provide financial aid for the establishment and upkeep of parks and gardens “an official stated.

People have recommended that the government should provide a subsidy to individuals who declare their willingness to convert their fossil fuel vehicles to electric while supporting the EV retrofitting programme. People have requested that the financial aid be expanded in order to maintain gardens and parks. The responders have also advocated for allowing rainwater harvesting devices in homes constructed on plots of land.
