The University of Delhi (DU) is set to begin classes for the new batch of students on November 22 after publishing five cut-off lists and receiving a flood of applications. It is unknown whether or not these classes will be held in a physical format. For a long period, students have demanded that the university be reopened. While schools in Delhi have been reopening, the university has yet to do so. The university announced that sessions for students who have been promoted to even semesters of undergraduate courses would begin on April 7.
According to the university’s official calendar, the fresh batch of undergraduate students will have preparatory breaks and practical tests from March 11, 2022 to March 20, while even semester students will have preparatory breaks from July 26 to August 4. Exams for the new batch will be held from March 21 to April 4, and for the even semester of undergraduate courses, from August 5 to August 22.
Classes for postgraduate programmes will start on December 1 for the first batch and on April 16 for the even semesters. Preparatory breaks and practical exams will be held for the first batch from March 20 to 29, and for the even semester students from August 2 to 11. The start of the next academic semester is set on August 26. Between April 13 and 15, students will be on summer break.
The institution says it is waiting for DDMA to allow 100 percent capacity before reopening classes in physical mode. “How can we reopen unless and until the DDMA allows for 100% capacity?” 60% of the university’s students come from outside Delhi. Because only 50% seating capacity is allowed, we can’t expect them to travel here, stay in a dormitory, and attend online lectures,” Delhi University Registrar Vikas Gupta told PTI.
Most classes are currently held online, while laboratory classes for final year students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) are permitted on campus under COVID-19 standards.
