Jaitu Baldev Singh, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, joined the Congress in Mansa on Friday. Charanjit Singh Channi, the Chief Minister of Punjab, welcomed him into the party. He joined the party as a primary member at CM Channi’s election meeting in Mansa, Punjab. Makhan Singh Lalka of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has also joined the party on the same platform as him.
Baldev Singh, it should be noted, resigned from the AAP’s primary membership on Thursday. In a letter to party chief Bhagwant Mann and national convener Arvind Kejriwal in Punjab, he resigned from the party’s primary membership, claiming personal concerns. For the second time, he has quit AAP. The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly dismissed Baldev Singh as a member of the Legislative Assembly in October this year under the Anti-Defection Act, and his assembly seat in Jaito was declared empty.

Baldev Singh and a group of other AAP MLAs revolted against the party leadership in July 2018 after Sukhpal Singh Khaira was removed from the role of Leader of the Opposition. He later joined Khaira’s Punjab Ekta Party and ran for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Faridkot. However, I was defeated. Baldev Singh afterwards rejoined the AAP in October 2019. At the same time, Makhan Singh Lalka, the previous Shiromani Akali Dal (B) constituency in-charge, has joined the Congress.
