Germany: Three people injured in knife attack on a train

A knife assault aboard a high-speed train in Germany injured three passengers on Saturday. The suspected attacker has also been apprehended, according to police.

The train had been delayed at Seubersdorf, southeast of Nuremberg, when the incident occurred at 0830 GMT near Neumarkt.

Three individuals were injured, two of them critically, according to Bild. There is no indication that any of the injuries are life-threatening.

The Associated Press said that local police received a call about the attack about 9 a.m. local time on Saturday.

The train is a high-speed ICE train from Germany. At the time of the incident, the train was travelling between Regensburg and Nuremberg in Bavaria.

According to police, one man has been arrested in connection with the incident at the Seubersdorf train station, where the train is still halted.

However, no information regarding the perpetrator or possible reasons has been released so far.

However, according to Bild, authorities are presently ruling out a terrorist connection.

“Right now, trains are being held back at appropriate locations,” added the official.

Furthermore, a spokesman for the German railway network stated that the Seubersdorf station has been blocked since around 9 a.m., and that train service between Regensburg and Nuremberg has been halted.

Threat of terrorism:

In recent years, however, Germany has faced a dual terror threat from Islamist and right-wing extremist groups.

Since 2015, however, there have been several attacks.

On the 19th of December 2016, a guy drove his lorry into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin’s centre. Although the driver left the scene, he was apprehended nearby.

A teenage Afghan refugee attacked passengers on a train in Wuerzburg with an axe and dagger on July 18, 2016, injuring five people. Police fatally shot him.

Three people were killed and five others were injured in a knife assault carried out by a Somali in Wuerzburg, Germany, on June 25.
