Group Captain Varun Singh, a crash survivor, was airlifted to Bengaluru

The only survivor of the helicopter crash in which Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and 12 others were murdered, Group Captain Varun Singh, is in critical condition and has been evacuated to Bengaluru.

Group Captain Singh was transported by ambulance from a military hospital in Wellington to the Sulur Air Base, where he was evacuated to Bengaluru. He will be treated at Bengaluru’s Command Hospital.

Group Captain Singh is on life support, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and “all attempts are being done to save him.”

With significant burn injuries, Group Captain Singh was evacuated from the accident site to a military hospital in Wellington. Colonel KP Singh (retired), his father, had stated that he will be transferred to Bengaluru.

“He’ll be relocated to Bengaluru. I’ve arrived in Wellington “According to PTI, Col Singh said.

He said the following concerning his son’s condition: “I’m afraid I can’t comment on it… I’m not certain.”

Officials had stated that he was “critical but stable at this time.”

Col KP Singh and Uma Singh, Group Captain Singh’s parents, were in Mumbai visiting their younger son Tanuj, a Navy Lieutenant Commander, when they learned of the tragedy.

Lt Colonel Ishan R (retired), Col Singh’s next-door neighbour, told PTI that his son “is a fighter” who will pull through.

In August, the Air Force officer was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery in controlling his plane when it suffered a snag during a mission last year. He successfully landed his Tejas fighter.

General Rawat arrived in Sulur yesterday, and Group Captain Singh escorted him to the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. General Rawat was scheduled to speak to the instructors and students at the institute, which is led by Group Captain Singh.

According to rescue workers, the majority of the remains found from the crash scene were extensively burnt. An investigation into the disaster has been ordered by the Air Force.

Many people have expressed their condolences for Group Captain Singh on social media.
