Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced on Saturday that pupils in schools across the state will be taught to recite’shlokas’ from the Bhagavad Gita beginning in the next academic session. The Chief Minister made the news at the ongoing International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra, according to an official press release. Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, was also present.
In a seminar held as part of the festival by Gita Gyan Sansthanam and Kurukshetra University, Khattar stated that books about Gita will be included in the curriculum for classes V and VII. The Chief Minister stated that the youth should internalise the essence of the Gita in their life since the message contained in this sacred book is meant for all of us, not only Arjuna.

He stated that the Gita Jayanti Samiti would be founded the next year in order to organise the annual International Gita Mahotsav on a larger scale. He said that a Mahabharata-themed museum is being developed on two acres of land at ‘Geetasthali’ in Jyotisar for Rs 205 crore. According to Khattar, Krishna Utsav will be held during the International Gita Mahotsav starting next year, similar to Ramlila.
