Thursday in the House, the leader of the opposition, Ajit Pawar, asked the government to explain the plight of farmers who have been hurt by natural disasters like unseasonal rain.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) proposed in the House a solution to the untimely rains that were causing significant damage to farmers’ crops, but it was rejected.
Mahavikas Aghadi MLAs chanted slogans in front of the assembly speaker.
Pawar expressed disappointment that the government will assist and offer assistance to farmers on March 8, but that the Chief Minister should have announced the compensation but did not.
Pawar brought up the subject of farmer suicide in Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar’s district, saying
Farmers are concerned and alarmed.
Pawar furiously challenged the Speaker, saying that it is agreed that this House is working according to the rules, but if the concerns of the farmers are not handled, what is the sense of only accepting questions and replies?
However, when the speaker was unwilling to debate the idea put forward by the opposition parties for farmers, the MLAs of the Mahavikas Aghadi grew hostile and walked down to the well, raising anti-government shouts.
