Param Bir Singh, a former Mumbai police commissioner who has been designated a “proclaimed criminal” by a court, said he was in Chandigarh on Wednesday and will return to Mumbai shortly.
The IPS officer, who is facing many extortion charges in Maharashtra, said he was in Chandigarh to news outlets.
When reporters asked if he would surrender (to the police or the court), Param Bir Singh responded he had not yet made up his mind.
The IPS officer was also seen on Telegram on Wednesday evening, but he afterwards erased his account from the social messaging app.
After his dismissal as Mumbai police commissioner and following allegations of corruption against then-Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, Param Bir Singh has not reported to work since May of this year.
Param Bir Singh has now been given protection from arrest by the Supreme Court.
After Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze was caught in the case of an SUV with explosives found near Mukesh Ambani’s residence, ‘Antilia,’ and the subsequent mysterious death of businessman Mansukh Hiran, he was transferred.
