According to the World Health Organization, the Delta variant, which was initially discovered in India a little more than a year ago, currently accounts for 99.5 percent of all genetic sequences reported to public databases and has “outcompeted” all other variants in most nations. Many scientists now predict that all future strains will be Delta offshoots. According to Reuters, the variant is mostly found in the United Kingdom, where it accounts for approximately 10% of all sequenced virus samples.

With Coronavirus infection dropping internationally, with the exception of Europe, and reaching endemic levels in some regions, the focus has switched to Covid tablet treatment. Pfizer announced a partnership on Tuesday that will allow other companies to develop its experimental Covid-19 pill, potentially bringing the treatment to more than half of the world’s population. Pfizer announced that it would licence the antiviral pill to the Geneva-based Medicines Patent Pool, allowing generic medicine companies to manufacture the drug for use in 95 countries, accounting for approximately 53% of the world’s population. The action will bolster the fight against Coronavirus even further.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, India reported 10,197 new Coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections to 3,44,66,598, while the number of active cases in the country fell to 1,28,555, the lowest in 527 days. The mortality toll from Covid-19 in India has risen to 4,64,153, according to the Health Ministry. For the past 40 days, the daily increase in new Covid-19 cases has been fewer than 20,000, and for the past 143 days, it has been less than 50,000. The active cases currently account for 0.37 percent of all infections, the lowest level since March 2020, according to the Health Ministry, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has risen to 98.28 percent, the greatest level since March 2020. Even though the primary festive season has passed, there has been no hint of a significant increase in Covid-19 instances in recent years. The immunisation campaign has gained up steam across the country.
