The World Health Organization designated the new strain Omicron and classed it as a ‘variant of concern’ on Friday evening. Since then, countries have hastened to take action to prevent the Omicron form from spreading. Many countries have implemented travel bans, while India’s government has instructed states to increase testing and genome sequencing, as well as altered foreign arrivals guidelines.
