Ingka Centres, a subsidiary of the Ingka Group (which also includes IKEA Retail and Ingka Investments), has announced intentions to open its first retail centre in India in Gurugram.
“The estimated investment for the project is around €400 million (Rs. 3500 crores). While construction will start in early 2022, the new meeting place is expected to generate more than 2500 jobs and will contribute to further growth of organised retail in India,” said Ingka Centres.
“We are thrilled to announce our IKEA store in Gurugram together with Ingka Centres,” stated Peter Betzel, CEO and CSO of IKEA India. India is an exciting country for IKEA, and we’ve made a long-term commitment to use our omnichannel approach to reach as many people as possible. We can’t wait to meet and inspire the many people in that region with our beautiful, affordable, well-designed, and sustainable home furnishing products and solutions.” “Delhi NCR will be one of our largest and most important markets in India, and we can’t wait to meet and inspire the many people in that region with our beautiful, affordable, well-designed, and sustainable home furnishing products and solutions.”
“We warmly welcome IKEA and Ingka Centres to Haryana. We are excited to work with IKEA and Ingka Centres to develop organised retail and address the expanding demands of consumers in the state and region. The government is committed to giving the best possible assistance to ensure a seamless flow of investment into the state. This initiative will not only make Gurugram one of the newest shopping hotspots in the city, but it will also create jobs in the area. Over and above establishing business relationships with investors, we greatly believe in the Heart 2 Heart Approach. This is yet another confirmation of our regional development ambitions.” Manohar Lal, the Chief Minister of Haryana, stated.
Ingka Centres said in February that it had purchased a land in Noida, on the outskirts of Delhi, and planned to invest roughly 55 billion rupees in its first retail centre in India, but that it would open first in Gurugram.
In an interview, Andersen stated that the Noida store would open soon after Gurugram.
In 2018, IKEA launched its first shop in India in Hyderabad.
