On eBay, an iPhone X with a USB Type-C connection is for sale. The e-commerce site lists the customised iPhone X made by a student called Ken Pillonel as the “world’s first USB C iPhone.” The Apple gadget has been modified to allow charging and data transfer. The device has 173 bids at the time of writing, with the highest being $100,100. (roughly Rs. 7,447,000). The auction is set to end on November 11th. Ken Pillonel has posted a video on YouTube demonstrating the complete process, from concept to custom internal PCB design.

Ken Pillonel, a robotics engineering student, explains how he inserted a USB Type-C connector inside an iPhone X in his blog and YouTube video. According to him, the modification process entails converting the Type-C male end of the cable to a female connector, then inserting the cable into the iPhone. The proof-of-concept prototypes, reverse engineering C94 (connector), using a circular board, and making the USB Type-C connector fit within the iPhone case are all shown in the 13-minute movie.

As previously stated, eBay is currently listing the customised Apple phone with 64GB of storage and a USB Type-C connection. On Tuesday, the initial bid for the handset was $3,500 (approximately Rs. 2,60,200). At the time of writing, the prototype device has already received a bid of $100,100 (approximately Rs. 7,447,000). With less than a week until the auction ends on November 11, the price could rise much more.

The iPhone X with a USB Type-C port is available for free worldwide shipping from an eBay vendor. The device is available in black and comes in a box with no further accessories. Pillonel is also supporting iPhone calls for up to 30 minutes.

It’s vital to know before bidding in the auction that the prototype should not be used as an everyday phone, according to the eBay listing. Users are not allowed to wipe, restore, or update their phones. It is also forbidden to open the phone. Finally, the project is open-source, and anyone interested can look it up on GitHub.
