Bill Gates has been a strong supporter of pandemic preparedness measures, particularly in terms of providing poorer countries with access to vaccines and medication. The Gates Foundation said in October that it will pay $120 million to provide lower-income countries’ access to generic versions of Merck’s antiviral Covid-19 tablet.
