Income Tax (IT) authorities instigated an investigation by launching coordinated search operations across various parts of Tamil Nadu, according to sources.
According to sources, the cities in which the operations have taken place include Karur and Coimbatore, where the premises of individuals allegedly linked to the minister were searched.
Some of the relatives of the minister and contactors are among those whose premises have been searched as a part of the investigation conducted by the tax authorities.
The Minister and senior DMK leader from Karur have also been allocated the Prohibition and Excise portfolios. Tension was observed in Karur as a car used by the tax authorities was damaged by the local miscreants.
