Rumours about Apple’s next-generation iPhone 14 series are already circulating online months before the device’s planned September release. According to Apple watcher iDrop, the iPhone 14 Pro will finally include a USB Type-C connection for charging and data transfer, replacing the Lightning port. Following the release of the iPhone 12 series, Apple began shipping USB-C chargers, but the devices (including the newer-generation iPhone 13 series) still use the proprietary Lightning port. Although Apple managed to increase the fast-charging capabilities of the latest iPhone to 25W, its handsets have yet to acquire an advantage over fast-charging technology championed by Chinese rivals Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, and others.

Type C Chargers for iPhone 14

“Several sources familiar with the subject, who desire to remain nameless,” according to the journal, learnt of the development. Apple’s selection of the USB Type-C connection for the iPhone 14 Pro, on the other hand, appears to be more about data transfer than charging speeds. On the new iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple introduced ProRes video recording mode, which uses more capacity even for a minute-long file. As a result, Apple is rumoured to be preparing to use the more ubiquitous USB-Type C connector on the iPhone 14 Pro to allow for faster data transfers. If the rumour is true, Apple uses the same technology on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but it’s unknown whether it’ll be available on other models.

The leak’s details are still sketchy, but it is feasible given Apple’s recent revival of multiple ports on its M1 Pro and M1 Max-powered MacBook Pro 14 and 16. The addition of obsolete interfaces such as the SD card reader was made to aid producers in effortlessly moving data across devices. Since last year, Apple has begun adding USB Type-C connectors to its iPad series. This year’s iPad models, like as the iPad mini 6 and the M1-powered iPad Pro (both types), have a USB Type-C connection that supports rapid charging.
