Jaya Bachchan, a member of the Samajwadi Party, was enraged today in the Rajya Sabha after a personal remark made by a member during a debate on the narcotics bill. She didn’t hold back her criticisms, which were mostly directed at the Treasury benches, and even accused the chair of failing to listen to the opposition.
Mrs Bachchan addressed the Chair, which was presided over by Bhuwaneswar Kalitha. “You should be impartial and not promote any one party,” she added.
“What do we have to look forward to from you? What exactly is going on? There are numerous topics that we are debating in relation to a measure introduced by the government to address a mistake… Go ahead and strangle us, Aap gala ghont dijie ham sabka “she continued.
A heated spat erupted after BJP MP Rakesh Sinha raised a point of order, accusing her of pointing at the Chair.
“Aap logon ke bure din aayenge” (your bad days will come) I curse you, she added, pointing to the Treasury benches.
Ms Bachchan then urged that the Chair take action against the member, claiming that they had made “personal statements” about her.
The Chair, on the other hand, announced that any remarks that were not appropriate will be removed from the record.
Mr Kalitha adjourned the House till 5 p.m., as the situation seemed to be spiralling out of control.
