A day after actor Kangana Ranaut attacked Mahatma Gandhi in a series of Instagram postings, BJP Delhi spokesman Nighat Abbass claimed that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inspired by his teachings and that such statements against him amount to defaming India on a global scale.
“The people of India have designated Mahatma Gandhi as the Father of the Nation. Whose ideas have kept the Bharatiyata alive in the country, and whose thoughts have also influenced our Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi,” she stated in a video that she also uploaded on Twitter.

“I want to know what Kangana Ranaut wants to become by saying absurd things about him. By saying such absurd things she is regularly raising questions on freedom struggle and is hurting the people of country. I believe she is not just hurting people of the country but defaming India at international level,” she said.
She stated that Mahatama Gandhi was and would continue to be the “Father of the Nation,” and that the BJP is likewise inspired by him.
Ranaut said on Tuesday that Mahatma Gandhi did not endorse Subhas Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh, and went on to criticise his ahimsa slogan, stating that offering another cheek brings you “bheek,” not freedom.
Ranaut’s “bheek” remark harkens back to last week, when she referred to India’s independence as “bheek,” or alms, and asserted that it occurred in 2014.
In a series of Instagram posts, Ranaut once again singled out Mahatma Gandhi, saying, “choose your heroes wisely.”
Praveen Shankar Kapoor, a BJP spokesperson, has previously requested action against her, claiming that she had insulted the relatives of independence heroes.
