According to Central Agency sources, Punjab Police detained Daljeet Singh Kalsi alias Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi on Sunday, an alleged adviser and financier of Waris Punjab De head Amritpal Singh.
The Punjab Police proclaimed Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh a fugitive late Saturday evening, soon after he was thought to be on the run. The Punjab Police started a large nationwide cordon and search operation in the state on Saturday against members of the group, against whom many complaints have been filed.
“Waris Punjab District Chief Amritpal Singh has been designated a fugitive,” Jalandhar Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal told ANI. His two automobiles were impounded, and gunmen were apprehended. We also examined to see whether his security escorts’ rifles were lawfully obtained.
“A case has been registered. Punjab Police have launched a manhunt for Amritpal Singh, and we are hopeful that he will be arrested soon. A total of 78 people have been arrested so far, and further searches and raids are underway,” Chahal added.
Security has been beefed up throughout the state in order to apprehend the Khalistani sympathizer.
On Saturday, Punjab Police arrested 78 people as part of the operation, while numerous others were held for interrogation.
The police discovered nine firearms, including eight rifles and one revolver, during the raid.
The whole state has been cut off from the Internet, and the Punjab Police have told people to keep the peace by not spreading rumors, panic, or hate speech. “The Punjab Police Department is striving to ensure law and order,” the department tweeted.
