Kiren Rijiju moved out of law ministry, replaced by Arjun Ram Meghwal

Kiren Rijiju, a minister for the Union, was moved from the ministry of law on Thursday and given responsibility for the ministry of earth sciences. Arjun Ram Meghwal has taken over as the new minister in Rijiju’s stead.

A press release from the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated, “Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State be assigned the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his existing portfolios, in place of Shri Kiren Rijiju.”

Earlier, Rijiju’s comment that “some retired judges” are “part of the anti-India gang” was met with criticism from a variety of opposition politicians. These leaders criticised the minister for “talking like an outlaw” and “propagating injustice.”

In July of 2021, Rijiju was appointed to lead the Ministry of Law. Rijiju, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh and has served as a member of the Lok Sabha three times, received his legal training at Delhi University’s Campus Law Centre. Many members of the administration were taken aback when they learned of his appointment to a Cabinet post, which he had received after serving as a junior minister with independent charge for youth affairs and sports.
