Manish Sisodia issues a warning to Delhi residents about a new covid strain called Omicron

Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, said on Sunday that the government was concerned about the new Covid-19 type, Omicron, and that multiple departments had been urged to speed up infrastructure improvements in the capital.

“Both concern and dread are important in the context of the novel covid variety. The new variation has also piqued the government’s interest. We’ve convened a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). Simultaneously, the health department and other administrative departments are once again on high alert.” We’ve warned everyone and requested them to improve infrastructure at a faster pace right now,” Sisodia said during a press conference on Sunday.

The World Health Organization has given the latest form of SARS-CoV-2 – the virus that causes Covid-19 – the name Omicron (WHO). The variety, B.1.1.529, was originally reported to the WHO in South Africa, where it was classified as a ‘variant of concern.’

The Union health ministry has issued an advisory to all states and union territories, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-level meeting on Saturday to examine the current Covid situation.

Sisodia advised people to avoid needless encounters, saying that the variation could already be present in the city. “Even if only one person with the new strain enters Delhi, it will spread quickly.” We should infer that someone carrying the variation has reached Delhi and that the virus is spreading among some of the city’s residents. “However, we hope this is not the case,” Sisodia stated.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, requesting that flights from nations afflicted by the omicron variant be halted. “I urge Hon’ble PM to stop flights from those countries which are affected by the new variant. With great difficulty, our country has recovered from Corona. We should do everything possible to prevent this new variant from entering India,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief wrote on Twitter.

Countries have imposed travel restrictions as a result of the new variety, which is thought to be more transmissible and immune-evasive. Aside from Botswana, Hong Kong, and South Africa, the novel variety has now been found in the United Kingdom, Australia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, and other countries.
