Mother’s Day 2022: Here’s Why Is It Celebrated All Over The World?

Mother’s Day is observed in India every year on the second Sunday in May. Mother’s Day is observed to recognise the existence of mothers and their importance in people’s lives. Mothers play a variety of responsibilities in our lives, ranging from caregiver to protector, from friend to mentor. More than 50 countries throughout the world commemorate this day.

The honouring of mothers has long been a part of human history, but it wasn’t until 1908 that the United States established a day solely dedicated to mothers. Anna Jarvis, an American lady, sought to establish a day to honour mothers’ labour and sacrifices after her mother died in 1905. In Grafton, West Virginia, she held the first formal Mother’s Day celebration in May 1908.

Soon after, Anna and her friends started a full-fledged movement, writing to notable Americans to demand that the day be proclaimed a national holiday. It had spread to every state in the country by 1911.

Finally, in 1914, then-US President Woodrow Wilson decreed Mother’s Day to be observed on the second Sunday in May. The festivities gradually expanded beyond national borders to other countries. However, different countries have different days.

Mother’s Day will be observed in India on May 8 this year. In India, it is always observed on the second Sunday in May.

The maternal bond is celebrated in many ways. Many individuals use Mother’s Day to build their bonds with their mothers; many people give their mothers gifts; many people try to do something special with their mothers, such as baking a cake or going to the movies.
