“This is like fashion, now if a Bollywood film becomes a big hit then all these talks will change,” Says Nawazuddin Siddiqui On Super Success Of KGF 2, RRR.
Based on the success of RRR and KGF: Chapter 2, films that were released in Hindi as well as their original languages – Telugu and Kannada, respectively – there has been a lot of debate about “pan-Indian cinema” recently. The huge success of these South films has shifted perceptions of Bollywood as India’s big daddy of cinema. Both RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 strive to entertain, and both feature Bollywood performers – Alia Bhatt co-stars in RRR, while Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon star in KGF 2. According to highly acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, audiences have accepted the spicy substance of these films, which is not something to celebrate.
Nawazuddin hoped that moviegoers would emerge from the epidemic with a refined taste for cinema, based on the quality of international content available on streaming platforms, after more than two years of delayed films and locked theatres. “After the virus and lockdown, I believe the audience will mature because they will have seen good world cinema. Change has arrived, but it is not for the better,” NDTV spoke with the star of Sacred Games.
The box office annihilation of KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR proves the opposite. The Hindi version of KGF 2, starring Yash, has grossed over 343 crore, surpassing the totals of major Bollywood blockbusters such as Aamir Khan’s PK, Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju, and Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai. RRR, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, continues to expand after five weeks and just crossed the 1,000 crore mark worldwide. The film’s Hindi version has grossed over 262 crore rupees.
Shahid Kapoor’s COVID-delayed Jersey, on the other hand, has flopped at the box office, grossing only 15.5 crore in four days.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui reminded us that a film’s box office success should not be confused with its quality. “When a film does well, everyone joins in and praises it even more; when a film does not do well, people criticise it even more,” he said, adding that a successful Hindi film could change the status quo: “This is like fashion; if a Bollywood film becomes a big hit, all of these discussions will change.” This, I believe, is merely a fad.”
Two blockbuster movies this year, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Brahmastra, starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan, are among the possible Bollywood hits.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays alongside Tiger Shroff in Heropanti 2, a masala entertainer that was released today “Yes, I’ve also worked on a commercial film. I’m hoping that people will watch this one as well, and that we will make a lot of money,” he stated jokingly.
