Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik to reshuffle council of ministers tomorrow

According to news agency ANI, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, is making arrangements for a cabinet reshuffle on Monday following the resignations of the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly and two ministers.

The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed council of ministers will take place at the Convention Centre of Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on May 22, as per the prearranged schedule. The event is scheduled to commence at 9:30 am.

According to PTI, Chief Minister Patnaik is preparing to reshuffle his cabinet for the second time during his fifth tenure as the state’s chief minister.

As the new ministers get ready to take their oaths, Governor Ganeshi Lal, who is currently visiting his hometown in Haryana, is expected to return on Monday. However, sources suggest that he has been requested to come back on Sunday.

Last week, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash and Labour Minister Srikant Sahu submitted their resignations. The position of Health Minister, which was vacant since the unfortunate demise of Naba Kishore Das in January, has not been filled.

In addition to Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha, who resigned last week, two other ministers also tendered their resignations.

The Parliamentary Affairs Department is actively making arrangements for the upcoming swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Monday.

Last year in June, Chief Minister Patnaik carried out a cabinet reorganization.

Currently, the Odisha Council of Ministers consists of only 19 ministers, including the chief minister, instead of the full complement of 22 ministers.

Potential candidates for the position of speaker include Prafulla Samal, Debi Prasad Mishra, Amar Prasad Satpathy, and Badri Narayan Patra, who are currently leading contenders.
