Param Bir Singh is getting closer to being designated a fugitive

A Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) has been issued against former Mumbai top officer Param Bir Singh by the eighth metropolitan magistrate court. This is Param Bir Singh‘s third non-bailable warrant. With the issuing of this NBW, authorities will be one step closer to designating Singh an absconder.

“We can proceed with the proclamation and attachment of Singh’s properties under the Criminal Procedure Code now that the NBW has been issued. We’ll also be able to start the process of issuing a Red Corner Notice against Singh “Shekhar Jagtap, the Special Public Prosecutor, stated.

Six FIRs have been filed against Param Bir Singh, and an NBW has been issued in two of them, one of which is in Thane. A Look Out Circular (LOC) was also issued against Param Bir Singh in the Thane case, with the suspicion that he would exit the country. The Mumbai crime branch, which is also probing the extortion FIR filed in Goregaon, received an NBW from the Esplanade court.

This NBW was issued in a third case of extortion from a businessman, which was filed at Marine Drive police station a few months ago. The Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department is looking into this (CID).

Jagtap, who was tasked to establish a strong legal case against Param Bir Singh, submitted a court plea noting that attempts were made to contact Param Bir Singh at his official residence as well as his Chandigarh residence, which was his last known address, but he could not be reached.

In that plea, Jagtap also stated that the state plans to declare Singh an absconding defendant, which would necessitate the issuance of warrants. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate RM Nerlikar issued the warrant against Param Bir Singh after reviewing the application.

The CID is now investigating three of the five cases filed against Param Bir Singh. The case at Marine Drive police station involves police officers seeking Rs 20 crore in extortion money from a businessman at the behest of Param Bir Singh. Two citizens were detained and released on bail in this instance. Nandkumar Gopale and Asha Korke, two sitting police inspectors, were arrested this week.
