Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have filed a FIR or police complaint against unidentified people for allegedly presenting forged paperwork in order to earn a collective settlement of Rs 11.66 crore for land acquisition.
In Thane, land is being acquired for the proposed Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. Revenue authorities acquired land belonging to eight persons in Nandithane village in Thane’s Bhiwandi taluka as part of the procedure.
Those who presented their paperwork were compensated by the Bhiwandi sub-divisional office.
During verification, it was discovered that some persons had reportedly presented counterfeit Aadhaar and PAN cards and walked away with over Rs 11 crore in compensation, according to a Shanti Nagar police official.
According to him, the police filed a case against unnamed people on Tuesday under relevant regulations, but no arrests have been made thus far.
