Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast is now available on all major audio and music platforms, in addition to radio.

According to a government official, this covers platforms such as Amazon Music, Spotify, Hungama, Gaana, JioSaavn, and Wynk. All of them feature ‘Mann Ki Baat’ in order for listeners to be able to listen to the address on any audio platform they want.

“This will expand the reach of ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ especially among the younger generation, in addition to TV, radio, the NaMo App, YouTube, and physical events where people listen in to the monthly programme,” the senior official added.

On the last Sunday of each month, Prime Minister Modi delivers the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, with the primary goal of establishing a discussion with citizens on concerns of day-to-day government. According to the government, this allows the Prime Minister to contact the masses across the country via radio and allows any citizen to connect, suggest, and participate in participatory governance through the Prime Minister’s radio address.

Mann Ki Baat has been broadcast on All India Radio (AIR) since October 2014 and is the most popular radio show in India, according to the government. It is transmitted in 21 regional languages, 31 local dialects, and 16 international languages. It is broadcast on 326 AIR Network channels on MW, SW, FM, and DRM, as well as live streaming on AIR’s NewsOnAir App and YouTube channel 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is simultaneously broadcast on Prasar Bharati’s radio, television, and digital platforms.

The government told Parliament earlier this year that this radio show is broadcast on 34 DD stations and about 91 private satellite TV channels across India, and that it has an audience of 11.8 crore and a reach of 14.3 crore by 2020. “This has reawakened interest in conventional radio,” the administration stated at the time.

In November 2018, the All India Radio conducted a Telephonic Quick Feedback research across 15 states, which revealed that the popularity of Mann Ki Baat has also increased the popularity of AIR. In addition, according to a government response to Parliament last year, television viewership of Mann Ki Baat on the DD Network jumped from 100 million viewers in June to December 2018 to 132 million in June to December 2019.
