During his discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed concern over everything related to terrorism and drug trafficking, including the situation in Afghanistan.
“We are unquestionably concerned about all aspects of terrorism and the fight against it. The fight against terrorism also includes the fight against drug trafficking and organised crime. In this regard, we cannot help but be concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and how it is evolving “Putin made the remarks at the Hyderabad House during the 21st India-Russia Annual Summit.
When asked about the two countries’ ties, Russian President Vladimir Putin said: “We see India as a big power, a friendly country, and a trusted ally. Our countries’ ties are strengthening, and I am optimistic about the future “Added he.
This is the first time the two presidents have met in person since their meeting on the margins of the BRICS summit in Brasilia in 2019. Apart from the virtual meetings they’ve attended for global summits, PM Modi and Putin have had six telephonic calls since then.
The visit is part of a long-standing practise of annual summits alternatively conducted in India and Russia.
The two countries held their first 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue earlier in the day.
On Monday, the two countries also agreed to purchase 6,01,427 AK-203 assault rifles through Indo-Russia Rifles Pvt Ltd as part of a military-technical cooperation deal for the years 2021-31.
Putin stated on Wednesday that he expects to discuss new “large-scale” initiatives with Prime Minister Modi in order to further enhance “specially privileged” Russian-Indian relations.
“Both nations profit greatly from this collaboration. Bilateral trade is growing rapidly; links in the energy sector, innovation, space, and the manufacture of coronavirus vaccines and medicines are all flourishing “Putin stated.
