As the Rajasthan Assembly elections draw near, the political landscape in the desert state is heating up, with various opinion polls offering differing predictions. According to one opinion poll, the Congress is projected to retain power in Rajasthan, securing a total of 97-105 seats.
Currently holding 100 seats in the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, the grand-old party, led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, is expected to continue its governance for a second consecutive term, as per the IANS-Polstrat Opinion Poll 2023. The poll, which surveyed 6,705 individuals from September 1 to September 13, indicates that the Congress enjoys a positive vote swing of 2 percent and is projected to garner 41 percent of the vote share, while the BJP is anticipated to secure 40 percent of the votes.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot emerges as the most popular CM candidate in the survey, with a 37.9 percent approval rating, followed by Vasundhara Raje of the BJP at 25.5 percent and Sachin Pilot of the Congress at 25.4 percent. Additionally, 47.8 percent of respondents rated Gehlot’s performance as good, according to the survey results.
In contrast, another opinion poll by ABP News-CVoter predicts a comfortable majority for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections. This survey, conducted from June 26 to July 25 and encompassing the views of 14,085 adults across the state, suggests that the BJP is poised to secure 109 to 119 seats with a vote share of 45.8 percent. Meanwhile, the incumbent Congress government is projected to win 78 to 88 seats with a vote share of 41 percent. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is expected to secure 0-2 seats with a projected vote share of 0.7 percent, while ‘Others’ may win 1-5 seats with a vote share of 12.5 percent.
As the election campaigns intensify, these differing poll results indicate a keenly contested battle for power in Rajasthan, with both major parties eyeing victory in the upcoming polls.
