According to local media citing sources, the Taliban assassinated a young physician in Afghanistan’s Herat region on Friday.

According to Khaama Press, the doctor, Amruddin Noori, 33, was slain in Herat city when he failed to halt at a police security checkpoint, according to the victim’s family members who spoke to the media.

Noori, who used to run a small private medical clinic, had recently married, according to sources.

After seizing Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, on August 15, the Taliban seized power, leading to the collapse of the previous administration and widespread evacuations of foreign workers and Afghan collaborators.

The Taliban had previously pledged the Afghan people of protection and safety for their lives and property, yet this incident contradicts the Taliban’s statements.

In August, the country was thrown into chaos when the Taliban took control of Kabul and the democratically elected administration of former President Ashraf Ghani collapsed.
