Sidhu withdraws resignation as Punjab Congress Chief

Navjot Singh Sidhu announced on Friday that he has resigned as the chairman of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).

“I have revoked my resignation (as Punjab Congress chief) and declare clearly that I will resume my duties as soon as a new Advocate General is appointed and a new panel is formed. It wasn’t a case of inflated ego “Sidhu explained.

Sidhu resigned on September 28th, just after the new state cabinet’s members were assigned ministries by Charanjit Singh Channi.

“The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab,” Sidhu had said in a letter to party interim chief Sonia Gandhi.

“As a result, I have decided to step down as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.” He wrote, “Will continue to serve the Congress.”

On the other hand, Harish Rawat, the AICC’s state director, declared on October 15 that Sidhu will continue to lead the Punjab Congress.

“He (Sidhu) talked to Rahul Gandhi about his concerns. We assured him that his issues would be addressed here. He promised Rahul Gandhi that his resignation had been retracted and that he would resume his duties as PCC president,” Rawat added.

Sidhu also stated that all of his issues had been addressed.

“I shared all my concerns with Rahul Gandhi. Everything has been sorted out,” said Sidhu after meeting the Congress scion.

He took over as state party chief on July 23rd, amid a leadership battle with Amarinder Singh, who resigned as chief minister in September after accusing the party’s top command of humiliating him.

Singh also just tendered his resignation from the Congress’s primary membership, which Sonia Gandhi accepted. The former chief minister has formed a new political party called the Punjab Lok Congress.
