Every party is seeking to woo voters in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022, and they never shy away from insulting the other party in the process. Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, was in Etawa city three days ago, where he visited a village and uploaded images of his visit on Twitter. Akhilesh may be seen sitting on a sofa surrounded by residents in the images.

“I came here today to see the Chief Minister’s falsehoods being revealed at Etawah, where he went for Fake COVID Tourism during the epidemic and falsely claimed that all the medical arrangements were perfect.” Dengue fever has ravaged this village, and many people have died as a result. The sleeping government must wake up immediately!” Akhilesh Yadav had already stated.

The Congress was quick to criticise the Samajwadi Party over the photograph. “Where did the comfortable sofa come from for Netaji in the house that doesn’t even have plaster on its walls?” questioned Srinivas BV, National President of the Indian Youth Congress.

The Samajwadi Party, too, did not hold back in retaliating against the Congress for the tweet. Rajeev Rai, a spokesperson for the Samajwadi Party, tweeted a photo of Rahul Gandhi and remarked that sofas are only found on tractors, not in impoverished people’s homes. “Soop to soop, chalniyo hasen? (Those with defects laugh at us) If a couch isn’t found in a poor’s house, is it found on a tractor?” asked Rai, referring to a photo of Rahul Gandhi sitting on a modified sofa mounted on a tractor.

The Samajwadi Party and the Congress fought the 2017 UP elections jointly, but they are expected to run separately this time. Akhilesh Yadav has stated that he prefers forming a coalition with regional parties to working with Congress.
