Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress leader, expressed optimism that the opposition groups opposing the Congress will band together in order to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This statement by Tharoor comes after Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), made a declaration regarding creating an alliance without Congress.
Independent voices are being throttled: Tharoor
Former Union minister Shashi Tharoor ridiculed the NDA government’s plan to observe Good Governance Week, saying that the “essence of real governance” has been missing for the past seven years as politics of slogans and symbolism has replaced good governance. “Independent voices are being stifled in the country right now,” Tharoor said during the launch of his book “Pride, Prejudice, and Punditry.”
BJP’s policies and politics also have to be defeated: Tharoor
“In politics, even a week is a very long period,” Tharoor observed. The next Lok Sabha elections are still two and a half years away. We hope that people who are speaking in various voices would unite to defeat the BJP. The objective is to defeat the BJP, as well as its policies and politics.
Several opposition groups, particularly the Trinamool Congress, have recently criticised the Congress for failing to confront the BJP.
