Tripura police detained Trinamool Congress leader and Bengali actor Sayoni Ghosh for attempted murder today, and she was allegedly beaten by BJP goons as she arrived at a police station in Agartala for questioning.
Over 15 members of the Trinamool Congress will fly from Kolkata to Delhi tonight. They’ve requested a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to talk about the violence in Tripura. Tomorrow am, they will stage a dharna in the capital.
Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of Trinamool Congress Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is heading to Tripura on Monday “to stand with the workers,” according to the Trinamool Congress.
The BJP has disputed the claims, claiming that Sayoni Ghosh disrupted Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s public assembly on Saturday. She was accused of throwing stones and hurling obscenities at the Chief Minister’s meeting.
Ms Ghosh, the head of the Bengal Trinamool Youth Congress, was allegedly attacked by BJP goons while being questioned at the East Agartala ladies police station, along with other politicians such as MP Sushmita Deb, Kunal Ghosh, and Subal Bhowmik. The rioting resulted in the injuries of six Trinamool supporters, according to the party.
They alleged that the police station had been brickbatted.
During Ms Ghosh’s questioning, some unidentified miscreants attacked a group of people gathered near the police station, although no one was wounded, according to the police.
Ms Ghosh was detained later that day, accused of attempted murder and inciting racial hatred, among other things. According to the party, the sections are non-bailable and she could not be produced in court.
Abhishek Banerjee tweeted:

The Tripura police have lately been ordered by the Supreme Court to guarantee that no political party is barred from expressing its rights.
A series of violent incidents have been reported in Tripura as the Trinamool Congress attempts to create a stronghold in the state ahead of the 2023 assembly elections.
The party is running in the Tripura civic elections, which are scheduled for November 25.
The ruling BJP has already won 112 out of 334 seats in 20 urban local bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation, without facing any opposition. This will be the BJP’s first municipal election after coming to power in 2018.
