Amidst reports of split in the movement, there is a big meeting of 40 farmers’ organizations at the Indus border in Delhi today. Discussion will be held on the proposal for the return of the farmers and the formation of the MSP committee. Most of the farmers of Punjab are in favor of ending the agitation.
Many farmers’ organizations of Punjab are in favor of ending the strike after the victory of the movement, while many farmers’ organizations want to continue the strike for other demands including MSP law and withdrawal of cases. The parties to the withdrawal are trying to build a consensus. Farmer organizations are holding an important meeting today to finalize the strategies.
A consensus was reached yesterday at a gathering of 32 Punjabi organisations that the movement had won with the withdrawal of agriculture measures from Parliament. Because enacting MSP legislation will take time, the government should return after setting a date. According to sources, around 20-22 out of 32 organisations want to return, while approximately 8-10 organisations want to wait until the rest of the requests are met before proceeding. Large farmer leaders, like as Punjab’s Joginder Singh Ugrahan and Haryana’s Sarwan Singh Pandher, are in support of maintaining the strike. On the Singhu and Tikri borders, his organisation has a big number of farmers.
What is the demarcation?
The farmers of Punjab were the first to oppose the agricultural laws, on his call, the farmers of Punjab as well as Haryana traveled to Delhi. In which later farmers of western Uttar Pradesh (western UP) and Uttarakhand also joined. The movement gradually spread to many states of the country. Statistics show that Punjab and Haryana have the highest purchases on MSP in the country, so there was no major demand for their MSP. The priority of the farmers of Punjab was to withdraw the three agricultural laws and not to take punitive action on stubble burning, the central government has fulfilled both the demands.
The government has requested the names of five MSP representatives.
