The price of Zydus Cadila’s Corona vaccine ‘Zycov-D’ has been fixed. The cost of one dose will be Rs 265. The Government of India has ordered one crore doses. A regulatory filing from the pharma company said, “Zydus Cadila has received an order from the Government of India to supply 10 million doses of Zycov-D, the world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine. 265 per dose and needle free applicator at Rs 93 per dose excluding GST.”
The company said that the price has been fixed after consultation with the central government. The vaccine will be given through a needle-free applicator instead of a conventional syringe. The name of the applicator is “Pharmajet”.
Zydus Cadila Managing Director Sharvil Patel said, “We are delighted to support the government’s vaccination program with Zycov-D. We are hopeful that needle-free vaccination will allow many more people to be vaccinated and protected against COVID-19, especially children and young people between the ages of 12 and 18.”
Three doses of ‘Zycov-D’ are to be given at an interval of 28 days. On Sunday, sources had said that the Union Health Ministry has given the initial steps to include the developed world’s first DNA-based Covid-19 vaccine in the country’s vaccination program.
Zycov-D received approval for emergency use from the drug regulator on August 20. Zycov-D is the first vaccine approved by India’s drug regulator for immunisation of people 12 years of age or older. Initially, priority will be given to planting it in adults.
