Grammy 2024: SZA Leads With 9 Nominations, Women Dominate 67th Edition Of Music Awards

The 67th Grammy Awards nominees list showcases an unprecedented female dominance in the music industry, with SZA leading the pack with over nine nominations. This impressive feat is closely followed by talents like Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers, and Serban Ghenea, each securing seven nods. Not far behind are renowned artists Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and Olivia Rodrigo, each with six nominations.

This year’s nominations highlight a significant shift in the music world, with women leading the race and only one male artist, Batiste, receiving more than six nominations. This disparity underscores a changing landscape where female artists are not just participating but leading in major music awards.

The Recording Academy, ahead of the 2024 show, streamlined the Big Four categories from ten to eight nominees. Additionally, three new categories have been introduced: Best Alternative Jazz Album, Best Pop Dance Recording, and Best African Music Performance, marking a significant expansion of the Academy’s recognition of diverse music genres.

Set to take place on February 4th at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the 67th Grammy Awards, officially known as the 66th Grammy Awards, will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. These updates, as Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. notes, are aimed at making the Grammy Awards process more fair, transparent, and accurate.

For Taylor Swift, this year’s Grammys hold the potential to make her the all-time leader in album of the year wins if her album ‘Midnights’ prevails. This would be her fourth win, placing her ahead of music legends like Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon, who each have three wins. Swift has already set a record by being the first person to receive seven nominations for song of the year.

In the movie category, Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ is a strong contender, with 12 nominations for its music, rivalling even its expected success at the Oscars. Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ and Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance the Night’ are also notable nominees, especially in the songs written for visual media category, where ‘Barbie’ dominates.

The Best New Artist category is equally competitive, featuring Gracie Abrams, Fred Again, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monét, and The War and Treaty.

In the rock and metal genres, bands like Metallica, Foo Fighters, Greta Van Fleet, Queens of the Stone Age, and Paramore are vying for the Rock Album of the Year, showcasing the enduring appeal and evolution of these music styles.

Overall, the 67th Grammy Awards nominees reflect a dynamic and evolving music industry, where female artists are not just present but are setting new standards and records, heralding a new era of diversity and excellence in music.
