Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes PM Modi’s ‘Mangalsutra’ Remark, Calls for Focus on Relevant Issues

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has launched a scathing critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks concerning ‘mangalsutras,’ asserting that such discussions divert attention from pressing national issues. Yadav’s comments come in response to PM Modi’s speech in Rajasthan, where he alleged that the Congress planned to distribute people’s assets, including women’s mangalsutras, to certain groups.

Yadav, addressing the press, rebuked PM Modi’s statement, highlighting the broader context of hardships faced by women during crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the aftermath of demonetization, casualties in the Pulwama attack, and border skirmishes with Chinese troops. He demanded accountability, asking the PM to elucidate who was responsible for the metaphorical ‘snatching’ of mangalsutras during these tumultuous times.

Emphasizing the need for election discourse to prioritize pertinent issues, Yadav emphasized that discussions on mangalsutras were inconsequential when many women struggle to afford gold due to soaring prices. Mangalsutra holds cultural significance as a symbol of marital status among Hindu women.

Yadav’s remarks echo a broader sentiment within the opposition, with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also condemning PM Modi’s narrative. Vadra, while addressing a rally in Bengaluru, recounted the sacrifices made by women in her family, including her grandmother Indira Gandhi, during times of national crisis.

Vadra’s impassioned defense countered PM Modi’s insinuations, asserting that neither the Congress nor previous governments had ever contemplated seizing citizens’ gold or mangalsutras. She underscored the selflessness of women like her grandmother, whose mangalsutra symbolized sacrifice for the nation.

PM Modi’s ‘mangalsutra’ remark has sparked intense debate, with opposition leaders condemning what they perceive as attempts to trivialize serious issues facing the nation. As political rhetoric escalates in the lead-up to elections, the focus remains on steering the narrative towards substantive concerns rather than tangential distractions.

In the midst of political jousting, the electorate seeks assurance that their leaders prioritize addressing pressing challenges, ensuring that their voices resonate on issues that directly impact their lives. With the electoral landscape heating up, the onus lies on political leaders to engage in meaningful discourse that resonates with the electorate’s aspirations and concerns.
